Safe Environment Program for protecting God's children

Creating a safe environment for the protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults is a positive initiative introduced and strictly executed by the Catholic Church in USA. The goal of this initiative is to create a safe environment in our schools, place of worship, homes and community as a whole. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) drafted and passed a major document called "The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" in 2002. The document is a response to the sexual abuse crisis in the church and a "Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal."

Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago adopts and fully adheres to the program. We are obliged to follow the program strictly. Divine Mercy Church is fully committed to creating a safe environment for our children and young adults. We work closely with the diocese and conduct periodic training sessions, do background checks and all required formalities and report to the diocesan office. All teachers and volunteers who work with children and young adults are trained in "virtus" programs, go through background procedures and sign a diocesan code of conducts.
